Milan is blessed with a vibrant Chinatown that serves up some excellent Chinese food, dumplings included. However, if you’re really looking to splurge on dumplings, the fittingly named Dim Sum restaurant in Milan, which opened in November 2013, serves up some delicious and pretty dumplings in various flavors, shapes, sizes and colors. As far as dumplings go, Dim Sum restaurant’s in Milan are on the higher price side  and they only come two to an order. However, flavor erupts from each bite, and we highly suggest Dim Sum restaurant in Milan if you’re looking to satisfy a any and all  lavish dumpling cravings.

Dumplings date back to 225 AD in China, during the Era of the Three Kingdoms and here’s a little guide to the three basic types depicted:

  • Jiaozi – Basic, common dumpling. Usually a thinly rolled piece of dough wrapped around a meat, vegetable or seafood filling.
  • Shao Mai – Open faced dumplings.
  • Shao Long Bao – Similar to Jiaozi but with a wrapping that is more bun-like in texture.
